From Law to Coding: A Journey of Exploring New Horizons
Hi there, I'm Maria. I'm a Master's in Law and a coding newbie. Yes, I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke - a lawyer walks into a coding boot camp - but here I am! And, I know, it's not the typical career path, but who wants to be typical anyway? I'm all about exploring new horizons. So, if you need any legal advice on coding or coding advice on the law, I'm your person.
Well, let’s get serious….
After high school, I pursued a degree in Law and during my first practicum, after observing my performance, I received a job offer from the Judge at the Court I was assigned to. I accepted the offer and later went on to be promoted to the Court of Appeal within a year and then to the Assistant of the Vice President of the Court of Appeal in just six months.
I have developed a deep passion for law, and I pursued my studies with dedication and enthusiasm. I was fortunate enough to land a job in Court, where I had the opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills to help people and make a difference in their lives. Although the work was demanding and required me to study and work 24/7, I never lost my passion for the law. I was driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive impact. Even when I had to attend University in the evenings after a long day at work, I was fueled by my passion and determination to excel. It was a challenging time, but I never lost sight of my goals, and I am proud of what I accomplished there.
I can say that my journey to receiving my Master's Degree in Law wasn't exactly a walk in the park. Between my Court's infinite responsibilities and academic pursuits, it felt like a never-ending battle to find time to complete my final thesis. In fact, I may have gotten a little creative with my time management skills and may or may not have written parts of it during Court hearings. I guess you could say I owe my degree to the Judges who kept the hearings long enough for me to finish my writing.
A Journey of Unexpected Detours
And then …… After feeling the effects of burnout, I took a much-needed break and traveled to Moscow to be with my family and future husband. This decision led me down a path I never could have anticipated. While in Moscow, I decided to work as a manager in a network of bakeries and confectioneries to support myself. Although it was a significant departure from my legal background, I found the work to be a welcome change of pace and a refreshing challenge. At the time, I had intended to return to my job in Moldova. However, after the birth of our son, my husband and I decided to move to a European country and we relocated to Germany, where we currently reside. The move allowed me to learn both English and German(still learning), which has been an incredible experience. Now, I'm excited to see where this journey will take me, and I'm grateful for the unexpected detour that led me to this point.
Exploring the Intersection of Coding and Data Analysis: A Beginner's Journey
Six months ago, I decided to embark on a new journey and learn how to code. And, as I delved deeper into the world of coding, I started to explore different applications and fields where coding could be used. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for Data Analysis. I immersed myself in countless courses on data literacy and listened to a ton of Data podcasts, realizing the potential of combining the two fields and how it could lead to new and exciting opportunities. This realization motivated me to delve deeper into data analysis and continue my coding journey with a focus on this exciting and versatile field.
I started by learning Python, SQL, and Power BI all at once, which I admit is overwhelming. There is an enormous amount of information to assimilate, understand, and keep up to date with, but I’m determined to keep going. [In the future, I may write about my experience staying motivated and consistent]. I have decided to start this blog to share my Coding and Data Analysis journey and to assist others who are just starting. Based on my observation, beginners can often explain concepts in a simpler and more accessible manner compared to experienced coders. As we gain more proficiency in specific domains, it's possible to lose sight of the beginner's perspective and the challenges they face when learning. This can happen because of the increased familiarity with the subject matter.
I plan to keep a record of my learning journey, including the challenges I face, such as environment preparation, software installation, errors, and tricks.
By sharing my experiences, I aim to solidify my understanding and assist other beginners in their learning process.
Thank you for your attention and valuable time.
